Oh RyanAir....

Okay, FRESH OFF THE PRESS! Just checked in/boarded my 4th RyanAir flight of my life and guess what?? It SUCKS. I just have to vent. So last time I took a RyanAir flight from Scotland to London, I was forced to pay 35 pounds bc my backpack was too heavy when boarding. Got by with it for 2 other flights, but this time they wanted to weigh it. So I had to pay. And finally, I understood how RyanAir can just plain ruin your day.

So this time, I bought a small rolly duffel bag in Granada to carry my big black coat, some books, my purse etc. bc RyanAir only allows you to take 1 carry on bag of a certain size including your laptop bag and purse. So I figure, I’ll get a small bag to carry all the little stuff to take on board and check in my backpack for only 15 euro. Sooo I’m on my way down the stairs to hop on the plane after my passport is stamped, AND OF COURSE….madam!! You need to fit your bag in the metal contraption or else it’s too big. Well guess what? My new small rolly duffel is 1 inch too wide. It’s just barely doesn’t fit. So 35 euro down the hole. THEN, I’m running down the stairs cuz by now, I’m sure there’s no seats left in the window and I’m not about to have a panic attack on the plane bc my calm pills are in the backpack that  I checked in. Thought it was an hour long flight, but its actually a 2 hour flight, so I was caught off guard by the possibility of a longer flight causing some anxiety. So I’m running to the plane on the tarmac, it’s windy, I get in trouble bc I’m not running INSIDE the lines. Then, I give my bag to the luggage driver to put in the bottom of the plane, and he tears off my tag and says, “you can take it on the plane, go ahead”. I am about to scream. I am thinking, well Ryan Air, if you want my 35 euro then you can take my bag and let me get to a good seat faster! But I don’t say anything, so I get on the plane. I walk in and of course that stupid classical music is playing to make the plane sound all ritzy and there’s absolutely no room for my bag. So I weave my way to the front, and oh my lucky stars!!! There’s a window seat on the wing!!! Guess my luck changed, but for the guy next to me, they tore him apart with their pickiness on his jacket being in the way, his plastic shopping bag should be under the seat in front of him, and oh wait, you need to move to the front sir to a different seat because there’s a lady with a baby who NEEDS some room to sit next to irritated Larissa. Glory. About to take off. Let’s hope this Twix helps my mood……

(Later on....) The Twix helped, but yet another RyanAir story to finish the day's saga...

So we are about 100 meters from landing and I'm about to breath a huge sigh of relief, then, we start to pick up speed. A LOT. Like way too much to be comfortable. The cars below are whipping by and let me remind you, we are supposed to be landing. And we just keep getting faster. And faster. Then our plane tilts up and we begin to take off from the air. I am freaking out by now. Every one's kind of looking around chatting to one another about what is happening to our plane. About 10 minutes later, the captain finally comes on air and announces we were getting to close to another plane and had he not tilted us up for an emergency take-off, we would have crashed into the plane in front of us because it was landing too slow. COOL. Meanwhile, I've made a new friend in the mom next to me and she's telling me to look at her baby, bc the baby isn't scared!

I begin to calm down when I see that we are circling through some rain clouds, but stable. We finally land a normal landing and everyone claps as soon as we touch the ground, though it was a very rough and hard landing. And to top it all off, RyanAir plays their typical landing announcement: "Dun dun dun! Congratulations! You have just landed with RyanAir on another on-time flight!" or something of that nature....they like to brag about how 95% of their flights land on time. And yes, we did land on time that night....just glad I'm here to say so.
